Duck & Mixed Shooting

There’s something magical about waking up really early in the morning, getting into waders and making your way to the duck blind while it’s still dark. Watch the spectacular sunrise reveal the landscape; it’s awe-inspiring. Duck shooting in Argentina & Uruguay is firmly up there on our list of favourite pastimes.

The delta between Argentina and Uruguay where the River Plate (Río de la Plata) meets the sea is exceptional for duck shooting. You can shoot inland on large ponds or on the delta itself, where you’ll find a labyrinth of river channels and small islands. All outfits that we work with exercise careful management and conservation of the land they shoot over. To give an idea of volume some of the operations we work with will feed over 100 duck blinds each day.

The shooting will take place from a hide on the waterfront or from a submerged bucket (covered in reeds) in the middle of a pond or lagoon. Your ‘bird boy’ will help create a picture of well spread out decoys and will stay close by to assist when needed. Low flying teal whizzing past present a real challenge, not to mention a wide array of other species.

Also on the cards are some excellent mixed species days – ducks in the morning, walked up Perdiz during the day and an evening’s dove flight. For us the walked up Perdiz over pointers is a world class experience, where usually two guns shoot behind one dog. There tend to be up to ten flushes every thirty minutes or so, the shooting is exciting with difficult flush points, arcs and speeds.

After an exhilarating day guests return to comfortable and relaxed lodgings, a perfect retreat to regale the days events, enjoy some top quality food and wine, before recharging the batteries for the next morning.
